In latest news released from the Ministry of Education Singapore warns of fake polytechnic websites. The website has the school’s name and logo at the top of the page and, with almost all subsequent details in Chinese; it therefore appears to be a Chinese version of the school’s website.
Moreover there are at least eight of these sites, for the polytechnics and three universities here, but more interestingly none are run by the institutions themselves. The Ministry of Education (MOE) has expediently warned that there are fake websites for the five polytechnics here respectively as Nanyang, Ngee Ann, Republic, Singapore and Temasek polytechnics.
In addition the Police reports have been filed by the relevant polytechnics. They would sincerely work to bring down these websites and continue to monitor for such websites. It is also revealed that the official websites are not affected and could still be accessed.
MOE revealed examples of the fake websites comprising www.nap.ac.cn, www.nypsg.com, www.rp.ac.cn, www.sp.ac.cn and www.sgtp.com.cn. There were also fake websites of three Singapore universities respectively as www.ntuedu.cn, www.nusedu.cn and www.smuedu.cn. It is enumerated that the website addresses are so similar to those of the official school websites and include vivid photos of the schools on the home pages. Moreover they also list corporate profiles of the schools and course details.
A vivid look recommends that the eight websites are set up by a single group which likes to provide advice to global students interested to apply for the schools. More ironically a disclaimer at the bottom of the www.nap.ac.cn home page reveals in Chinese: “This website offers details related to Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and is not the school website.”
Eventually fake websites surface from time to time and the popular educational consultancy namely Study Singapore would like to remind members of the public to remain vigilant, especially for transaction purposes. It is also known fact that Singapore Education remains to be top among global rankings.
