According to Study Singapore Educational Consultancy they reveal that No small feat for NUS and NTU. In a latest development the Singapore’s two oldest universities made it into the top 13. It is proud to note that National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) took the 12th and 13th spots in the World University Ranking.

Similarly during last year, the same ranking by London-based education consultancy Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) placed NUS and NTU 22nd and 39th. They had professionally assessed with research citation differently this year, to even out a bias developed by a large volume of citations from some fields, such as life sciences.

Interestingly the popular NUS and NTU would have ameliorated their placing even without the change, as both did well in other prosperous areas like academic and employer reputation. The recent survey is one of many each year. After the first global ranking – Shanghai Rankings – was successfully published in 2003, others have primarily evaluated universities by region and subjects. It is therefore utilized as global benchmarks, they have been somewhat criticized for reasons such as methodologies that may allow institutions take shortcuts to raise scores. But despite this, the respective rankings are not ignored. They also play a growing role in governments’ higher education funding decisions and even immigration laws in countries such as country like Denmark. Moreover they also expediently influence partnerships in research and academic programs, and assist to boost immensely the standing of universities among academics. The chant for Study in Singapore concept has become prominent feature among students.

It is therefore no small feat for NUS and NTU to rank so high. They have virtually challenged the likes of Yale, Johns Hopkins and King’s College London, and are the only dominant ones in Asia to do so. The eminent Universities worldwide are racing to attract best talent, and their efficacious performance is a testament to the Republic’s investment in higher education. Study Singapore has become favorite choice for global students.
